Summer is in full swing. We spend weekends on patios, our days filled with sunshine and cool cocktails. However, it is important not to neglect your health during the warmer weather. This year, we are turning to one of the best naturally detoxifying ingredients out there: Grapefruit.

Grapefruit is one of the best citrus powerhouses you can buy. It contains a flavonoid called naringenin, which has proven to help increase the metabolism. It also is full of vitamins and minerals that are essential for your body. Here are just a few:

Vitamin C

In one medium sized grapefruit, there is around 30% more vitamin C than an orange. This is great for immunity and heart health, as well as fighting off free radicals, which make your skin appear dull and tired.

Fiber

Grapefruit contains natural pectin, a form of soluble fiber that lowers cholesterol and helps to stabilize blood glucose levels. This makes the pink fruit a fantastic, natural tool for your digestion.

Potassium

The potassium content in grapefruit makes it a great ingredient in any post-workout meal, as it has muscle recovery properties. It is also great for heart health and reduces the risk of stroke and kidney stones.

Lycopene

Lycopene is a phytochemical found in fruits and veggies with a red hue, and has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This is great for your skin, especially after all the sun exposure you get in the summer.

Water

Grapefruit is 91% water, making it one of the most hydrating fruits available.

In addition to all these nutritional benefits, grapefruit has proven to be one of the best foods for weight-loss and insulin resistance. It is also a key ingredient in some of the best beauty and aromatherapy products due to its refreshing scent and rejuvenating properties.

There are a variety of ways to incorporate grapefruit into your life. Grill it, eat it raw, or mix it into a salsa. Wear it as a perfume, make a DIY body spray or add a few drops of essential oil to your shampoo. Our favourite way is to drink it as an iced tea, using our new Pink Paloma blend, now available for purchase!
